Are you looking to update your piercing look? If the last time you got an ear piercing was when you were a kid, a lot has changed! Whether you’re looking to update or upgrade your style or get your ear pierced for the first time, here’s what you should know before getting your ear piercing in Orlando.
Choose The Right Studio
Just because you can get your ear pierced anywhere—from the mall to doctors' offices—doesn't mean you should. Choosing the right place for your ear piercing is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. You deserve a personalized experience where you feel welcomed and relaxed, not rushed or intrusive. You also want to pick a clean studio that uses proper sanitation techniques and puts your safety first. At Fine Ink Studios, we’re committed to providing safe and professional ear piercings in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. We prioritize your safety and follow strict health regulations to ensure a safe, healthy and enjoyable piercing experience.
Piercing Methods
The way your ear is pierced also matters. There are two primary methods for ear piercing: a piercing gun and a piercing needle. Here’s why how you get your ear pierced makes a huge difference in how it feels and how your piercing heals:
Piercing Guns
Piercing guns are often used at jewelry stores in malls and big box stores. Piercing guns use a quick blast of blunt force to push the piercing jewelry into the ear, making a hole at the same time. Piercing guns can make the process more painful and make the healing time longer, as earrings are much duller than piercing needles and aren't designed to create a hole in your ear. Piercing guns are also made of plastic, making them almost impossible to sanitize properly.
Needle Piercing
Needle piercing uses a sharp, sanitized needle to create a hole in the pierced area. Then, another needle feeds the jewelry into the newly created hole. Using tools specifically for piercing can also reduce the pain of getting your ear pierced over using a piercing gun. Needle piercing is the safest, most sterile, and least traumatizing body piercing method, which is why it's the method we use at our Orlando ear piercing shops.
Aftercare Procedures
Developing a solid aftercare routine will help your piercing heal faster. Avoid twisting or pulling at the piercing, as this can increase the chances of infection. Always wash your hands before touching your piercing, and only do so when necessary. Healing can take anywhere from two weeks to six months, depending on the type of piercing you get. Your body piercing artist will give you specific instructions for an aftercare routine for your particular piercing.
Healing Process
Another thing to consider when getting your ear pierced is understanding the healing process so you know whether something is out of the ordinary. It’s normal for a piercing to be red, tender, and slightly swollen for a few days after getting your piercing. However, you should go to a doctor if you notice excessive bleeding, swelling that won't go away, or have a fever above 100° within 24 hours of getting your piercing. These symptoms may be a sign of infection.
Jewelry Selection Matters
High-quality jewelry is essential for faster healing. Our piercing jewelry is made from solid gold and implant-grade titanium from Invictus, the industry's leading piercing jewelry provider. The type of jewelry you pick for your specific piercing also makes a difference. During your appointment, discuss your piercing and placement with your body artist. They can recommend the type of jewelry style, gauge, and threading that's right for your piercing.
